Knights to Christ
I have been shipping the booklets Knights to Christ to councils that have placed orders. We have tried to keep the cost minimal in the hope that every council will use this valuable tool to energize your council members. This booklet belongs in the hands of every knight or at the very least every council officer.
The booklet not only includes daily inspirational readings but also has information about Fr. McGivney and reflections on the principles of the order: charity, unity, fraternity and patriotism. There is a section on the qualities of a "practical Catholic gentleman" and the precepts of the Church. In the back of the book are prayers to use for opening and closing a council meeting - a great way to keep your council focused on Christ.
We tend to overlook the fact that our faith in God must be constantly nourished and that is true today more than ever. We need knights that are spiritually alive and vigorous. I have already heard a lot of positive comments about the book. I have also personally given a copy of the book to each of our council directors and the council has placed an order for books to sell. Now for a moment I would like to turn to the subject of Our Mother Mary. I just had the opportunity to lead a rosary prayer service for a deceased member. The memorial prayer service for deceased members is a Family activity; however I don't think our State Family Director, Terry Walker, will mind if I make a comment on it.
The words of the memorial service state: We carry the Rosary as a sign of our dedication to her and to her Son. Confident in her motherly love for us all, we entrust the soul of our brother (name) to her, that she may present him to her Son. I went on to lead the rosary and it was clear that this room full of people were familiar with the rosary. I hope we are all carrying our rosaries.
The Purpose of our Marian program, Our Lady of Charity, which is making its way around the state, is to promote devotion to Mary and the rosary. The practice of praying the rosary is not something we save until we are doing a memorial service it is a life long practice. Some people say that Catholics don't know the bible. We may not know chapter and verse but if we pray the rosary the words of the bible are on our lips.
