Happy Easter to all of you! I pray that the grace of our Risen Savior will renew your hope and give you confidence in sharing his life with others.
I commend my brother Knights who have joined in efforts throughout the State to come to the aid of those families who have lost loved ones and material goods following the devastating tornadoes that struck southern Indiana on March 2. During the early stages of the recovery, monetary donations are most needed. The "Indiana State Council Knights of Columbus Charity Fund" is set up to receive donations as well as Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Indianapolis-catholiccharities@archindy.org. May our prayers sustain the victims who are rebuilding their lives as well as all of those involved in the recovery during the coming months. Are we not witnessing here the "mystery of the resurrection" before our eyes?
It was announced on March 20 that Pope Benedict XVI has appointed our Supreme Chaplain, Bishop William Lori, of the Diocese of Bridgeport, Connecticut, as the new Archbishop of Baltimore. His installation will take place on May 16. As State Chaplain I have come to know Bishop Lori and have witnessed the many gifts he has brought to the Order. Baltimore is getting a great archbishop. Many of you may know that Archbishop-designate Lori is a native of New Albany, Indiana! Let us assure him of our prayers.
April 15, the Second Sunday of Easter, is Divine Mercy Sunday inaugurated by our late Holy Father, John Paul II. Many of our Fourth Degree Knights have served as honor for Divine Mercy Ceremonies. Why not bring your family to a service near you?
April 19 is the 7th anniversary of the Election of Pope Benedict XVI. The Knights of Columbus have been loyal supporters of the Vicar of Christ. Special prayers for the pope that day would be fitting.
The World Day of Prayer for Vocations is Sunday, April 29. As you know, our Order has been a strong proponent of prayer for vocations to the priesthood and religious life and has offered support to priests and seminarians. The March 2012 issue of Knightline presents a listing of vocation resources.
I look forward to joining you in prayer and fellowship at the State Convention April 27-29 at the Marriott East, Indianapolis.
